With each round creating a small bubble around the person, jumping rope is a solitary physical activity that literally isolates the person, warding off any encounter with passerby. This underrated exercise appears a more suitable choice than running during a pandemic.

The video jumping over isolation borrows auditory landscapes of intensive care units into which the rhythmic whipping sounds of jumping rope spill over. The background audio lends itself to imaginations of hospitals crowded with COVID-19 patients on ventilators, which stands in stark contrast to the empty field on display in which the artist exercises, alone.

Using various jumping rope stances, however, the artist endeavors to fill this apparent audiovisual gap, for the two worlds—inside and outside the hospitals—do not remain isolated.
